On March 19, 2020 the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce announced their plan during the current emergency shut down to save all the struggling local businesses in the Cable, Drummond, Namakagon and Grand View area. This follows an idea circulated by the Lake Owen Association Board Members earlier to help the area businesses who are struggling or facing bankruptcy in this time of crisis. Already full time residents of the Lake Owen area, seasonal residents , and vacationers are making donations to local charities, buying gift certificates to help the areas our small businesses and advancing their planned future purchases of supplies, appliances and labor. The local Chambers innovative solution for all the area’s businesses is two fold. First the Chamber dollars gift certificates can be purchased from the Chamber and can usually be used at any chamber member business. Then businesses redeem them at the chamber for payment. The second step effective immediately and until the crisis has past is an offer people to purchase Cable Chamber dollars and specify which business you want them to go to, including non-chamber members. The Chamber then will get the money to the business right away, and mail the certificates to purchaser to redeem at a later date. Also for every $100 you spend the Chamber will give you a $10 bonus certificate to spend anywhere you like in the Cable area.
